Seminar on “Improving Availability of Graded Indian Raw Wool & Yarn for
increasing Export of Quality Handmade Carpets”
A Seminar on “Improving Availability of Graded Indian Raw Wool & Yarn for increasing Export of Quality Handmade Carpets” was organized at Lalgarh Palace Hotel, Bikaner on 24th March, 2007. Shri J.N. Singh, Textile Commissioner gave key-note address and Shri Bhupendra Singh, Jt. Secretary (Wool) Ministry of Textiles gave special address at the Seminar. Wools of New Zealand & Romney, New Zealand, Central Wool Development Board, Jodhpur, Wool Mark Company, New Delhi, Wool Research Association, Mumbai, Carpet Export Promotion Council, New Delhi, Indian Woollen Mills’ Federation, Mumbai and Wool Industry Export Promotion Council, Mumbai participated in the Seminar. Discussion during the Seminar covered topics on – Progress and Development in the Indian Wool and the Woollen Industry, Grading of Indian Carpet Wool, Gujarat Sheep Development Programme, Sheep Breeding Programme for India’s Carpet Wool, Animal Husbandry Project for Carpet Wools of Rajasthan, Branding Strategy for Admixture of New Zealand and Good Quality Indian Carpet Wool, Need for Intensive Research and Development and Quality Assurance in the Indian Wool Growing Industry, Development of Bikaner Chokla Wool & Export of Carpet, Raw Material for the Indian Carpet Industry, Good Carding Essential for Manufacture of Good Carpet Yarn, Marketing of Quality Carpets in the World Market, India’s Handmade Oriental Carpets – potential for Massive Exports, Carpet Wool Production in Rajasthan and Bikaneri Chokla Wool, Quality Control at the Point of Carpet Production, etc.
IWTO Congress
WOOLTEXPRO had attended IWTO Congress during 13th to 16th May, 2007 at Edinburgh, UK along with its major member exporters.
Seminar for development of wool & woollen industry at Northern region:
A Seminar was organized at Amritsar on 2nd August, 2007. The Members of the Northern Region of India assembled at Amritsar to discuss and interact about boosting market of wool and woollen products and also to find out solutions on the problems of exports. Chairman, Wool Industry Export Promotion Council (WOOLTEXPRO) explained about the present status of the woollen industry and interacted with the members present at the Seminar about the various problems faced by the exporters. At this seminar problems concerning the shawl and shoddy industry were discussed.
Trade Fairs:
WOOLTEXPRO organized and participated in the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics 2007, China during 29th October – 1st November, 2007, at Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
WOOLTEXPRO organized and participated in the Texworld USA 2008 – United Sates during 22nd -24th January, 2008 at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York.
WOOLTEXPRO organized and participated in the Sourcing at Magic 2008, USA during 12th – 15th February, 2008 at Las Vegas Convention Center, USA.

WOOLTEXPRO organized and participated in the Interstoff Asia Spring 2008, Hong Kong during 12 – 14th March, 2008 at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong.
Seminar on the international wool scenario:
An international seminar was organized on 11th March, 2008 in the Conference Room of the Indian Woollen Mills’ Federation on the international wool scenario which was participated by the members of the Wool Industry Export Promotion Council, Indian Woollen Mills’ Federation, Australian Wool Innovation and Wool Research Association. Mr. Craig Welsh, CEO and Mr. Jimmy Jackson AWI addressed the seminar and threw some light on the international wool scenario. Shri B.K. Kedia, Raymond Ltd., Shri Ravikant Kapur, President, and Shri M.K. Bardhan, Director, Wool Research Association., Dr. S.K. Chaudhuri of Woolmark Company and some of the stalwarts of the industry actively participated in the seminar. It was considered necessary to market the concept of wool as a natural fibre which gives luster to the fabric and blends very well with other fibres. As such the consumption of wool has to be increased.
Buyer-Seller Meet:
The Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner, Amritsar and Shawl Club (India) and WOOLTEXPRO had organized a Buyer-Seller Meet at Amritsar during 26th and 27th March, 2008 for the market development of the textile industry and to open new venues for their products. There were more than 40 exhibitors participated in this Buyer-Seller Meet.
ITC Centre, Bucharest, Romania:
WOOLTEXPRO has remitted Rs.3 lakhs towards 9 sq.mtr. space per annum to Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) for setting up India Trade Centre, Bucharest, Romania which will provide the following services:

Fully furnished display facility at 9 sq.meters space, where catalogues and product samples/prototypes can be displayed attractively.

Do extensive marketing and promotion in the region by participating in trade fairs, providing meeting venue and secretarial assistance for visiting Indian exporters and facilitating exports from India, which will act as off-shore for participants.

Arranging for warehousing and assisting in all local formalities.
WOOLTEXPRO have been requested to send our consignments containing the exhibits – brochure, samples, catalogues, etc. to FIEO for further dispatch to Romania. It is expected that the ITC Trade Centre, Romania will be inaugurated during August, 2008. We have already made arrangements for dispatch of one consignment containing exhibits from the members.
